District Cooling FAQs
Find answers to common questions about our moving services
District cooling is a centralized air conditioning system used in many Dubai developments instead of individual AC units. If your building uses district cooling, you cannot opt out - it's the only cooling option. Buildings in Dubai Marina, JLT, Downtown, Business Bay, and other master-planned communities typically use district cooling.
District cooling deposits range from AED 2,000 to AED 6,000 depending on property size and provider. Studios typically require AED 2,000, one-bedrooms AED 2,500-3,000, and larger apartments or villas up to AED 6,000. The deposit is refundable when you close the account and settle all bills.
If your new property uses the same provider (e.g., both in Empower areas), you can request a deposit transfer instead of refund and new deposit. This saves time and you only pay the difference if the new property requires a higher deposit. Contact your provider to arrange this.
District cooling bills depend on consumption (measured in Ton-Hour), property size, and season. Summer bills (May-September) are typically 2-3x higher than winter. High bills may indicate: leaving AC on when away, low thermostat settings (below 24°C), or building-wide issues. Check your consumption in the provider app.
New connections typically take 2-5 business days after deposit payment and document submission. Some providers offer same-day connection for an additional fee. Plan to have your cooling connected before moving in, especially during summer months.
You'll need to close your Empower account (get deposit refund) and open a new Tabreed account (pay new deposit). The providers don't transfer between each other. Process both simultaneously to minimize time without cooling at either location.
